The most important images to
be taken during your wedding are:
Photo session with bride and groom - including formal
brides portraits
The religious ceremony
Portraits and groups at the church
Photos at the restaurant
First Dance
Portraits and groups at the restaurant
Photo session with bride and groom:
Ideally, the formals should be taken outside, in a park or other
nice location, weather and time of the year permitting.
Usually, the formals shooting is done after the religious ceremony
because of the way the bride schedule the wedding day, though
it would be much better to be done before. The bride and groom
would be less tired, the make-up fresher, but do not forget that
most brides are usually late in the wedding day.
If the ceremony is scheduled late in the evening there will
be no more daylight by the end of it so the formal photo session
will not be held outdoors. In this case the shooting should be
done at the restaurant, especially if there is some space available:
lobby, stairs, etc.
The brides portraits:
The bride is the most important person of the wedding so she
should benefit of special attention during the whole day. During
the formals shooting session both portraits and full length shots
should be taken, to emphasize the wedding gown.
The formal shots are extremely important in wedding photography
so you should include them in the wedding schedule, even if you
favor a "photojournalistic" approach for the rest of
the images.
You should allow plenty of time for the formal photo session
with the bride and groom, at least half an hour to an hour, not
counting the transportation time to / from the shooting location.
Some of the brides portraits can be converted to black and white
and/or sepia tones.
The religious ceremony:
The religious ceremony is one of the most important part of
the wedding day and a good opportunity to create great photographic
images.
During the religious ceremony the wedding photographer will
show his/her skill and talent to get the most important moments
and to show the atmosphere in the wedding pictures.
The images should present both the church interior and atmosphere
and brides portraits with the groom.
Black and white and/or sepia toned images can enhance the impact
of the photographs.
Portraits and groups at the church:
Usually, those images are taken when the wedding leaves the
church, ideally in natural light. The most important image is
the group of all the people which were at the ceremony.
Time permitting,
smaller group photos may be taken, the bride and groom with
parents, relatives, friends. The
list of the important images should be drafted during the initial
meeting between the bride and the photographer. This will help
avoiding confusions and will save a lot of time, especially since
most churches have several weddings scheduled in the same day.
Restaurant:
At the restaurant there is the receiving of the guests, bride
and groom entering the hall, the restaurant decorations.
An important image is the newly weds table during a toast
with the champagne glasses.
To get images with most of the guests, the bride and groom
may "tour" the tables.
First dance:
This is a great moment to get wonderful images with the bride
and groom, the dancing will allow photos of the bride with
the wedding gown in motion with the restaurant in the background.
Portraits and groups at the restaurant:
To get good portraits and small groups at the restaurant we
will need an appropriate space with a nice background where the
lights and people will be arranged.
There the bride and groom will have group picture taken with
the people who want, especially those who could not attend the
religious ceremony.
If there is still natural light and the weather is good, those
images can be taken outside the restaurant, on a terrace or in
the garden.
